Běijīng huānyíng nǐ

ni hao??
last friday saw history in the making. on an auspicious date 8.8.08 at 8pm, the world witnessed the pomp & pageantry displayed at the opening of the 29th olympiad event. held at the beijing national stadium (otherwise known as the birdsnest) it was a spectacular feast to behold. orchestrated by the acclaimed director, zhang yimou - it showcased to the world china's history, present & future. i can only imagine the live atmosphere as the drums are beat in unison, as the sounds of the guqin fills the night sky....

as the president, hu jintao welcomes the world & officiates the opening of the games, he does so in mandarin. the daughter asked why he did not speak english instead. why should he? the nation is proud of their culture & heritage. when in rome.....

as we watched the olympic torch being lit, we cannot help but feel a sense of pride & awe that a nation in asia has made their presence felt. maybe its also the fact that i am chinese (smiles). so heres to a fortnight of splendid showmanship (the samba boys doing their splendid moves), hot toned bods (check out the bums on the cuba volleyball team & you'll know what i mean) & friendly sportsmanship.
so have a good olympic fortnight as we watch the world put aside their differences to come as one world with one dream
